I received a lovely message following up on Mao’s return home to his family! How great that he was so well taken care of in his moment of need. And what a relief to see he has a loving family to go home to!
Here is a story with a happy ending about Mao the cat.
Hit by a car on the morning of June 23rd in Sophie’s neighbourhood. Neighbour who knows Sophie sees this and brings Mao (named Garfield by Sophie) to her desperate for help. Sophie calls me to see if I can take this cat after she takes him to her vet. I say yes of course. Sophie has always been there for me and is good friends with Estelle and I. We are a team like all rescuers should be. She brings me the cat along with his x-rays and pain meds later that night. I see a dislocated pelvis with 3 small hairline fractures and a dislocated patella in his back right leg. Poor Mao cannot move and is very lethargic at this point. 48 hours go by and I get a phone call from an ad I posted on Kijiji and it’s Mao’s owner thrilled to know that his beloved cat is safe and sound thanks to Sophie’s quick actions.
Mao received plenty of rest while he was here thanks to a large crate provided by Sophie (mine was a tad too small for such a situation) and was actually able to sit up by Saturday evening, right before his owners came to get him. An excellent sign that this tough cookie will make a decent recovery. He was meowing and purred a whole lot when he saw his owners. He even tried to walk but we stopped him not wanting him to wander off again!
We so rarely find happy endings in these situations so the good stories are totally worth sharing. I applaud Sophie for her devotion and officially welcome her to Moustache as an honorary and very much appreciated member. No worries Sophie….we won’t be sending any cats your way. LOL! Like you so eloquently said when I asked if you were okay with taking on this cat under your name at your vet’s….”An animal in need is an animal in need”.
I should also thank Petluck who kept in touch with me through this process showing genuine concern. It’s no wonder I have Petluck posted on our web site. They do good work helping lost pets in Montreal.
I can now gladly take my ads down as Mao is back home safe and sound and go to bed tonight knowing that Mao will continue on with his life being the happy cat that he was meant to be. Needless to say that his owners will not allow him outdoors anymore no matter how much he whines. 😉

A little extra effort by some compassionate people and wonderful things can happen! Long live Mao! 🙂
