  2. This is what my friend Ruth Abbey in Chicago posts to those looking for lost cats. I amended the info for Montreal.
Hi, I just saw your post about your missing cat. This might help.

Cats rarely go far at first – he is probably close by and hiding. Please leave food out for him in the vicinity he escaped from – that will keep him around.

Please go out and call him (when it’s quiet, late at night, in the middle of the night). He might hear you and answer and if you go during the day with background noise you may not hear him meow or he’ll be too frightened to answer. It helps to take some of the food he likes with you and shake it or make a noise that he might associate with food – he’ll be hungry. The international call of the Friskies box!

Please leave things that smell of him close to your home – his litter tray, his bedding.

Please post flyers around the neighborhood – sightings help a lot to recover lost cats.

Please check that he isn’t trapped somewhere – a neighbor’s garage or shed. He could have gotten in somewhere and be unable to get out. Keep checking!

If he isn’t back in a day, please go to the SPCA (5215 Jean-Talon O, (514) 735-2711), contact Westmount Public Security (514) 989-5222 if applicable), your local police station, and/or SPCA Monteregie (178 Chemin du Vide, Sainte-Angele-de-Monnoir, (450) 460-3075).

I would also contact Berger Blanc to make sure they haven’t picked him up. If they do, he will have little time before he is in danger of being euthanized (514) 494-2002; 9:30 am-8:00. DO NOT BRING FOUND ANIMALS TO BERGER BLANC! Have someone call and go there first, make sure they know if your animal is brought in not to harm h/her.

It is a good idea to do this on a regular basis – all these places are busy and won’t always be able to call back if you leave a message.

But please be active – don’t wait for him to come back – although I hope he does.

Please let us know if you find him and please like Hyde Park Cats on Facebook.
